ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Darlene Winston

It is a true balancing act to protect yourself and realize your dreams because there’s always someone willing to destroy you.

I’ve experienced the struggles of living in a single-parent household. I’m not in hiding. I don’t pretend to have something or be something that I am not. I’m very proud to say that I come from Harlem. People make their own judgments anyway.

I enjoy using my talent, skills, and education to help others. I give financial seminars at churches and other institutions and resources to my friends when they request it. People often ask, “Do you  know how much money you can make? Why don’t you charge?” My answer is simply that it’s not about money for me. It’s about how good I feel when I can pay it forward and bless someone else.  You never know when a little help or an act of kindness will help someone flourish in their own  way.

My earlier passion for traveling and real estate led me to obtain my real estate license and open a travel and event planning business. I welcome your visit to portcityeventsplanner.com

In my leisure you will find me basking in the sun of one of my four favorite pastimes, taking long drives with my husband, having weekly lunches with my daughter, reading in my sunroom  overlooking the lake, or having pizza parties with my grandchildren as they run back and forth, laughing and playing in the pool, demanding that I take videos of them.

I finally got my dream house overlooking the water. My plan and dream house was an apartment in a high-rise building overlooking the Hudson River. God’s plan for me was a custom-built home  overlooking a lake with a swimming pool and a dock on the canal. God has literally moved me from the projects to the lake house.

When I look back over my life, I would like to believe that the suffering and sacrifices I’ve  endured as a Black woman in the banking industry and in my world were well worth the pain if they allowed me to add value and help someone else be better than I was—do better than I did. I  pray that this book does that for someone else—for so many others.

My life is good. God is good.
